Atlanta Maternal-Fetal Medicine
As part of Obstetrix Medical Group, Atlanta Maternal-Fetal Medicine is conveniently located in Decatur, Georgia, with sattelite offices in Morrow, Conyers, Snellville, and Fayetteville. Atlanta Maternal-Fetal Medicine specializes in the care and treatment of women whose pregnancies are considered high-risk.
Our practice is comprised of board-certified Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists. To become board-certified, our physicians must have completed college, four years of medical school, four years of postgraduate study (internship and residency), and two years of specialty training after residency. The American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology requires that our doctors practice Obstetrics for a minimum of three years after training, and that they pass four separate written and oral examinations. The American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology defines a Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist as a physician "who, by virtue of additional education, is prepared to care for or provide consultation on patients with complications of pregnancy."
We feel this extra training is essential to the successful treatment of pregnant women with conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, sickle cell disease, multiple gestation, recurrent miscarriage, family history of genetic diseases, suspected fetal birth defects, and other such complications during their pregnancy.
The Perinatal Center System®
The Perinatal Center System® has been created by Atlanta Maternal-Fetal Medicine, P.C. to provide perinatology services locally to women throughout the greater metropolitan Atlanta community. With locations in Decatur, Snellville, Morrow, Fayetteville, and Conyers, the majority of pregnant patients in Atlanta and surrounding communities can get perinatology consultation and birth defects screening at one of our centers within 30 minutes of their referring physician’s offices. The Perinatal Center System® serves all four major hospital systems, nine maternity centers, and several hundred referring obstetricians and nurse midwives in the greater Atlanta area. The physicians of the Perinatal Center System® have privileges as perinatologists for Medicaid, Medicare, Champus, the majority of HMO/PPO policies, and for almost all forms of commercial insurance.
The Perinatal Center System ® offers state-of-the-art-diagnostic testing and consultation for expectant mothers and their babies during pregnancy. These special tests can reveal more about a mother-to-be and her unborn child than was once thought possible. Not only do these tests alert physicians to potential problems, they also provide a basis for comparison as the pregnancy progresses.
Specialized tests offered at The Perinatal Center System ® include amniocentesis, genetics counseling, targeted sonography, and fetal echocardiography. Obstetricians refer patients to The Perinatal Center System ® if they suspect a potential problem during an initial ultrasound, or if the patient is at risk for pregnancy complications.
